Beards and Face Masks

How to keep safe from coronavirus while maintaining your magnificent facial hair? Let’s have a look!

Okay, first off, we have to admit that face masks aren’t ideal over the top of beards, for one simple reason. Face masks rely on a close fit against the skin of your face, and facial hair can affect the fit and prevent a tight seal.

The most critical thing is to ensure the tightest fit possible, and that may mean testing different masks, or being trained on how to fit them properly.

So, it’s important to ensure that you are wearing your face mask or covering correctly. This sounds simple, but most people have never worn any kind of face protection before the current pandemic, and so are new to this.

Beards, They Grow On You...

Noses, as much as beards, impact on the way that a face mask fits to your face. You need to ensure the tightest fit possible all the way around the edge of the mask, including the nose, cheeks, and below the chin.

For healthcare workers and others on the frontline dealing with the virus, it is therefore critical that they wear medical or surgical grade equipment, properly fitted.

For most other beardy folks, a disposable mask will be sufficient for general use, although it is worth noting that extra care should be taken.

First of all, ensure that you are using a disposable mark that fits well, and that you are wearing it correctly according to all instructions.

Alongside this, take extra care of your personal hygiene. Don’t touch your face while out and about, wash your hands well and frequently, social distance as much as possible, and keep your beard clean. This means washing it properly and often - keeping it looking gorgeous, as well as safe!
