Do I Need to Wear a Face Mask to Visit my Hairdresser?
ROSSLYN NORTH SUPPLIES
Happy Hair Dance!
We’re doing a Happy Hair Dance! But is there anything we need to know about safety and hygiene and the coronavirus before we slide right back on in to the hair salon chair?
Hairdressers are being allowed to open again - woohoo - but with strict new practices to protect against the threat of the virus.
As much as possible, they have to maintain social distancing, with stations further apart, perhaps barriers, frequent hand washing, etc.
You won’t be able to wait in a waiting room, or order a hot drink. Floor markings will direct you, and there will be no gossip mags to flick through.
You’ll probably be asked to wash or sanitise your hands on arrival. Disposable equipment will be used as far as possible.
Anything non-disposable, and all public areas, must be sanitised between clients,
Salons will also have to keep a record of everyone who crosses their door, in case it is needed for tracking and tracing later on.
Life is short. You might as well live it with really great hair.

Hairdressers must also wear a protective visor that extends below their chin, but do not need to wear an additional face mask.
So what about customers?
There is no specific guidance for clients going in to get their hair cut, but each individual hairdresser and salon may well put their own guidelines in place.
We’ve been speaking to those in the know, and the majority of them say that they will require all of their customers to wear a face mask or face covering, for their own safety, for the safety of their stylist, and the safety of everyone else in the salon.
To be sure that your stylist is able to treat you safely, it is therefore advisable to have a high-quality face mask for every visit to the salon.
