Will a Face Covering Stop Me Getting Coronavirus?

Will a Face Covering Stop Me Getting Coronavirus?

ROSSLYN NORTH SUPPLIES

There are very few absolutes in life, but there is no doubt that face masks play a critical role in helping us all to reduce the spread of Covid-19.

Wearing them, even if we are not sick, helps protect against the great unseen risk of this disease - that people can be carrying the disease and not know, and therefore be spreading it unwittingly. This can affect those they live with, those they work with, and anyone that they come into contact with.

Much is still unknown about the Coronavirus, but it is clear that it spreads rapidly through communities and from person to person, and so we must all be on our guard against it, for some time to come.

A clear representation of this is that face masks or face coverings are now mandatory on public transport. As enclosed spaces which can easily become fairly crowded, transmission of the disease could happen very easily in these spaces.

Face Masks help protecting us from the unseen...

Outside of public transport, there are three key things to consider critical to your safety, and others.

1. Social distancing
2. Wash your hands well and regularly
3. Wear a face mask

Wearing a proper mask can help protect you from getting infected, but at the same time, reduces the risk of you spreading the disease to others around you.

The World Health Organization (WHO) updated its position on face masks recently, and now says that they should always be worn in public, and where it’s not possible to socially distance. They say that this can help slow the spread of the Coronavirus, because they can act as "a barrier for potentially infectious droplets".
